The origin of the Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois is a breed of dog that originated in Belgium. It was named after the city of Malines, which is now known as Mechelen. The breed was originally developed in the late 19th century as a herding dog for sheep and cattle, and it quickly became one of the most popular breeds in Belgium.

The Belgian Malinois is a close relative of the Belgian Shepherd Dog, a larger breed also used for herding. However, the Belgian Malinois was bred to be smaller and more agile, making it better suited for herding smaller livestock.

Over time, the Belgian Malinois became popular in other countries, including the United States, where it was used as a police and military working dog. Today, the breed is still highly valued for its intelligence, trainability, and versatility. It is often used in various roles, including search and rescue, protection, and sniffer dogs.

In addition to its working abilities, the Belgian Malinois is also a popular companion animal, known for its loyalty and affectionate nature. Contact us for more information
